On October 13, 2025, the Italian Chamber of Deputies—one of the two houses of Parliament—approved legislative bill 2369-A. This bill, which now awaits final approval from the Italian Senate, proposes a major centralization of all jure sanguinis applications.

The Italian legal landscape is poised for significant developments as the Corte di Cassazione's United Sections prepare for a crucial hearing at 10AM CET on January 13, 2026. The hearing is set to deliberate on the recent laws and the constitutionality of involuntary citizenship loss for minors, decisions that could profoundly reshape Italian and EU law concerning citizenship.

Judge Scotti suggests that a partial declaration of unconstitutionality of the Decree Law may be possible because the new law fails to provide a specific deadline for those born before its enactment to apply. As a potential reasonable solution, Judge Scotti contends a one-year deadline should be allowed for descendants born before the decree to submit a request for recognition under the previous provisions.
